ELVINGTON 19th JUNE 2011
Round 5 was held at York Air Museum, Elvington. After a 4 hour journey, some of it through torrential rain, we arrived to a cloudy and slightly damp welcome, and more showers were forecast at some point in the day. One glance at the wind sock confirmed the weatherman's prediction of a strong headwind though.
This venue appears to be popular with the four-wheeled competitors and the starting queue was long again, so we only managed to get 8 runs in, although with the headwind it was going to be hard to improve on any previous PB anyway.
Shiny had informed Jordan that he'd set the clutch up slightly less fiercely than the last round, although Jordan hadn't had an opportunity to try it until the first run. The sight of him kangarooing off the start trying to keep the wheel down gave us a giggle and so did Jordan's face on his return too. Next start he'd have to be a bit more gentle. On his 7th run he gave it some welly and nearly 12 o'clocked it, so rather than abort the run he continued to wheely the rest of the quarter, returning with our worst 1/4 time ever of 18.06 seconds but making us all smile.
In the qualifications we managed an E/T of 13.85, despite the headwind, although the best run came during eliminations with an E/T of 13.79 seconds.
